Born in 1963 to a musical family, the singer/songwriter had
her first live-performance at the age of 4.
1972 she studied piano-and guitar and had several small gigs
with her sister Irene, mostly at private parties.
Doris has also had experience working as a cook, receptionist
and in a fitness-center
day
nursery and has taken vocal lessons at the conservatory
Zurich.
1983 she married her friend, sound engineer and manager Pius
Ackermann and went to an
English school in Brighton/England, where she got deeply
involved with Folk-Music ( John Denver, Joan Baez, Bob
Dylan, etc.)
1985 she put a band together and made her first breakthrough
with second place at the National-Country-Festival at the
indoor stadium, Zurich

She
founded her own band “The Gamblers”, had several live gigs at
international open-airs and festivals in Switzerland, Austria,
Netherlands and Germany –Doris Ackermann was also a well known
personality on various Swiss- TV-Shows.
First studio album “Just for you” , was produced by Rock’n
roll-Star Jim Duncombe (Jimmy and the rackets) , who also
played in her band for several years
1987 Doris Ackermann and the Gamblers represented Switzerland
at the Country-Music-Masters in The Netherlands.
1988 First record deal with Polygram Records AG Zurich and
second album “A fire still burns” was released, produced by
Phil Carmen, the soft rocker with the hit single “On my way in
L.A.”
1990 Doris had her first son, Kay-Simon, reduced her
live-performances, but started to record her third album
“Thinkin’ with my heart”, produced by her longtime keyboarder
and music -friend Gino Todesco
1991 several live-performances at all the important festivals
and open airs at that time like: Int. Country-Festival Bad
Ischl/A, Country-Festival Linz/D, Open –Air St.Gallen,
Country-Night Mollis, (warm up band for Johnny Cash),
Seenachtsfest Kreuzlingen, Open-Air Wankdorfstadion Bern( warm
up-band for Kris Kristofferson, Kenny Rogers and Lacy J.Dalton),
Singer/Songwriter-Festival Frutigen, St. Jakobshalle Basel,
Country-Festival Grindelwald (Duet with Lynn Anderson “Rosegarden”)and
many more.
1992 the second son Tim-Phil was born and Doris concentrated
on song writing, also for other musicians like: Daniela
Mühleis, Claudia Wäspi, Deliverance, Marco Gottardi, Roger and
the wild horses, Nevada Country-band and Rodeo Ranchers. She
also wrote the German translation for the “Swissair”
promotion-song “Flyin’ away,” which was sung by Sandra Studer
in four different languages
1994 Polygram- Records AG put out “The best of Doris
Ackermann” and the Singer/Songwriter is back on tour. Solo,
in a duo, trio or with her complete band with very talented
musicians from the scene like Markus Fritzsche, Beat
Aschwanden, Uwe Krüger and Gino Todesco
Between her projects she also toured with her musician
friend from California, singer/songwriter Tony Lewis and his
band “the shooters”
1996 “THE JDJ’s” was founded after a long time friendship
with Jim Duncombe and Jacky Woodridge and inspires the scene
with a three part harmony vocal trio with mostly original
songs.
1998 Doris was nominated “The best female singer” at the
Award-Show Worb/BE together with an American singer Jennifer
Weatherly and Britta T.
Along with the big festivals and open airs Doris likes to play
small concert halls in a trio, duo or with the complete band
and enjoyes the live gigs more than ever, together with her
new band-members: Michael Dolmetsch, Ralfi Danger, Felix
Müller and Tosho Yakkatokuo
1999 “The Zeus’ daughters” was founded with her good friend
Britta T. –touring with the professional band from Nürnberg
/Germany, “The Texas Radio”
2000 between several concerts, she was a guest-singer on many
different CD-productions, also on the new Europe-album of
the Singer/Songwriter Hugh Blumenfeld from New York, who she
went on tour with together with his percussionist Shane
Shanahan
2002 Christmas-tour as a “special guest” and background
singer with Jeff Turner, Beverly Worboys, Florian Schneider
(Phantom of the opera), Egon Egemann & The new generation
2003 First Christmas -tour with Sanna, Britta T. and Doris
Ackermann called "Harmonie Voices"
2004 Christmas-tour “Caravan of love”, the second very
successful tour of the trio
Many live-gigs with her band.
2005 The new Solo-CD “When I come back home” was published,
was produced by guitar master, producer, Singer/Songwriter
and good friend Brent Moyer. They recorded a mostly unplugged
album with original songs“ where I am at this point in my life
is reflected in the music and lyrics on my new album.”
..the third tour with the "grand
dames" of the Swiss country scene, Britta T., Sanna and
Doris Ackermann was again a milestone for them and a musical
highlight.
2006 In November, between many
live concerts at private and official events with her band,
Doris Ackermann went again on tour with the great guitar
player, singer/songwriter, friend and producer from
Nashville/Tennessee, Brent Moyer.
...In December Doris had the
chance to join the big Christmas tour "Schwiizer Wiehnacht",
together with Swiss stars like: Carlo Brunner & band, Britta
T., Sarah-Jane, Rolf Raggenbass, Andy L., and the lead
singer of the well-known Klosertaler Markus Wohlfart.
